| Interview with an Author |
| What brought you to writing? As authors, we all feel like we have something to say. Whether it’s a story that may be fantastical, or it’s a story about a real-life thing. I became intrigued with the mental game of golf, and really went down that path and became a resource for a community of golfers. Over time I began to write about it and eventually realized I wanted to put the reflections together into a book. Golf is an outside game, but mostly it’s an inside game. And that’s also true for life. What has changed for you in the two years since publishing? So it was great to be published and it elevated my brand authority in the community. But when I first published, I would often think, yeah, I wrote a book, but you wouldn’t want to read it. It was funny. Then I started to understand that my book was really impacting people, and that made me think I had to get on a mission to campaign the book and the ideas in it. What have you put in place? I made a website, then hired an agency to help me redesign it. We created the website I have today, paulmonahan.com. Then I decided if I wanted to make a difference, I needed to look for a really good digital marketer, and that’s where I have found success. Can you define digital marketing for me? These are the folks who understand how the internet works and how to create, advertise, and reach out to find the market, the demographic, the people who would want and need our message or product. I thought my market was very small, a select type of golfer, but these marketers can get your message out to millions of people you don’t know and wouldn’t have considered, and as an extreme example, if you can get five dollars from 30 million people, that’s a lot of money. |
